Other than the financial resources which are beneficial to have on hand, it is very wise to
have all yours and your significant other’s paperwork in order and kept in a safe place.
A Mexican Will is also highly recommended. A United States Will is not necessarily recog-
nized and could become a complication in this process. Inheritance and probate laws are
different in Mexico. If a spouse without a will dies, the living spouse does not automatically
inherit. The living spouse and adult children inherit 50/50. It can be a lengthy and frustrating
process. Wills are not too expensive and there is a discount during September “The Month
of Wills.”
