From grain to glass…
The Making of The Brew
by Nicole Cougher
It’s early Tuesday morning, that’s when the magic starts. Grinding grains, sorting hops, mea-
suring yeast, sterilizing vats, boiling water, checking the temperature... brewing beer is a
science! Joe, Scott and Jorge, the owners & brewers of San Felipe Brewery (SFB) are all
hands-on. They all started as at-home-brewers six years ago, and joined together to start
The Brewery. With Carlos, Parker and Bryan there to assist them with the brewing. It has
been an exciting adventure ever since. From their first location in nothing larger than a stor-
age space, they have grown their Brewery into one of the most popular destinations in San
Felipe, located north of town across from the ARCO gas station. Their beer is also served in
many restaurants and bars in and around town, they also have canned beer to go. Two of the
first brews available were the Skinny Blonde, and the Baja 250. Both beers were developed
and named by all 3 brewers, and are two of their biggest sellers. The Matomi Stout is one of
Joe’s personal blends, and is named after the Matomi
Canyon in Baja. Rolling Man Red is one of Scott’s per-
sonal blends, and of course, is named after the man
himself. SFB has at least 20 beers on tap everyday,
along with flavorful Hard Seltzers, hard and N.A. Root
Beer, regional wines and artisanal liquors. There is
something for every taste. Many of the staff have been
with them since the beginning. There is also an on-site
food truck, with different local vendors offering deli-
cious food every day. There is always something going
on at the brewery! Local live music, karaoke night, ping
pong, darts and cribbage tournaments, horse shoes,
and of course the very popular weekly Trivia challenge. The Brewery is dog friendly, so you’ll
see lot’s of furry kids enjoying the ambiance with their parents. It takes a lot of behind the
scenes action to make it all happen, Donna, Gabby, Dulce, Julian, Omar, Alan, Yelsin, Marlen
and Lupe have that covered.
So stop by, raise a glass, and enjoy fresh craft beer from the only brewery in San Felipe.
