As the team recalls memories of past races, Kate mentions how one year they had
a trophie truck they had not driven until race day, and half way through the race
they noticed the engine heating up, when they reached the pit stop, it was discov-
ered that the gear had gone into low.
They removed the hood and contin-
ued without it, and WON the race.
We go through silt beds and bolder
piles, said Cara, who last raced in a
trophie Truck. If there is a vehicle in-

we bump him and blast past.” The
Dawnette & Tracy races are tough and the teams have
to be ready to be creative to survive
mishaps, Like placing a rock to keep
a shock in place or using a cotton pin to keep
bumper together. Both of these have been
used by the team to finish a race. But in the
end we are all in it for a cause, we are sisters
in the battle against cancer. A point of interest,
to add awareness to their plight, the race cars
are tagged with the names cancer patients
and team supporters who have lost the bat-
tle. Sadly the names on the vehicle include Coey & Kate
Kate’s husband Mickey and recently added
was Cara’s late husband Ed... Continues..
