El Mojito
A Classic highball drink that originat-
ed in Cuba. Not surprisingly, this cocktail
uses ingredients indigenous to Cuba,
including rum, lime, mint, and sugar. In
San Felipe the mint is sometimes substi-
tuted for “Yerba Buena” good weed. The
mixture is topped with club soda to create
a thirst-quenching libation. It requires a
bit more labor than many mixed drinks,
as it involves first muddling fresh mint,
lime, and sugar together to release the
flavors. But it’s well worth it for a refreshing,
fizzy, and mildly sweet rum cocktail that Arturo Carillo
remains one of the most popular to this Mixologist for the Vaquita Norte
day. Our favorite liquor store merchant, prepares his Mojito in a tall glass
Andes Tamallo from Un Rancho A Otro, mashes the mint or yerbabuena leaves,
has a great selection of white rums to ads 2 teaspoon of simple syrup, 1 1/2
chose from, in the preparation of you own oz of white rum, 1oz of lime juice, top the
Mojito. ENJOY! glass with soda water.
