For thousands of years artists and art lovers alike
have been fascinated with art of the sea.

The Sea
has always been an
alluring force to our cover artist Philip van
Rensburg, and it is no different for him here
in San Felipe. Philip was born and raised
in Durban on the east coast of South Africa
and Swaziland for the first half of his life.
Growing up, the ocean was a big part of his
family life. When
he had his own
3 children they
would often swim
in the ocean and
free dive to catch abalone and spiny lobster. On a few
occasions they even had to avoid white sharks by hiding
in the kelp.The sea was not his only love. Music became
his passion at an early age and by 14 he was performing

In addition to performing,
Philip started writing and
composing his own songs
and recorded many (there
will be a link at the end to
his latest composition).
Along this journey he met
his wife Tirzah and they
have been together for 46
years. Unfortunately, music
could not support his family
so he studied mechanical
engineering at the Uni-
versity of South Africa. He
continued his education at
Hariot Watt University in
Scotland, receiving a de-
gree in brewing & malting.
