Also, as I’m sure everyone has noticed, for the first time in over 3 decades, the government
is working on revitalizing the iconic Arches at the entrance to San Felipe. While that is not
our project, we are participating in cleaning and beautifying the areas by planting trees at the
monument and along the way on Chetumal towards the Malecon.
      Q. How can the community support you?
      A. There are 2 ways: by donating time and/
or money to San Felipe United. While I don’t
have a web page to get donations online,
cash donations can be left at Rositas. To
volunteer, you can reach me via Facebook
under Martin Romo C (my page has the
SFU logo). Additionally, anyone who prefers
not to donate cash but donate trees, can
leave prepaid trees at the nursery on Hwy 5
South of town. We currently need about 20
trees to finish * Chetumal Avenue, at a cost
of about 300 to 500 pesos a tree.
        Also, the community can promote us by using the hashtags;
        #Miesfuerzo #YoEstoyConSanFelipe #PaintingSanFelipe #LimpiemosSanFelipee#CeroBasura
              #MedioAMbiente #ConElCorazonPorDelante #SanFelipeBaja #SanFelipe100.
      Q. As we enter the 1st Century of San Felipe, what is your vision for the future?
      A. San Felipe will be celebrating it’s first Century on February 5th, and if I could have my wish
come true, I would wish that in the next 10 years that the hospital that is sorely needed here
can become a reality, I also hope they can get the airport up and running as an international
airport so that we can get commercial flights and boost the tourism to the City. San Felipe
has grown exponentially, so we need to have the infrastructure to support the growing local
population as well as the expat population.

As I sat there, with Martin and Angela, it became evident to me how much it runs in this
family’s blood the desire to help their community, as I saw Angela taking a last few orders
for tamales she was selling; originally I thought it was just
for their business, but Angela explain to me it was not so,
that she and a group of friends have been finding ways
to fundraise, either by selling food, doing raffles or selling
other goods, and that the funds were earmarked to help a
member of the community who was in dire need. I asked
her about her efforts, and she just said that, she felt we
all had it in ourselves to help people, and that they do
it not for accolades, but to help improve the lives of the
people around them. As I heard that and as I said good-
bye to Martin and Angela, I was left pondering what else I
can do to help my community. I guess this writer has now
something to thing about, as I love and embrace the idea
of making San Felipe the best place to live for us all.
